About Amy DeCaussin

Hi! I’m Amy, an award-winning artist and content creator in Phoenix, Arizona who uses my whimsical illustrations and animations to inspire fresh perspectives and help connect people more deeply with themselves, one another, and the Earth.

My unique style is eclectic, uncanny, and above all fun, combining vibrant watercolor paintings with cut paper illustrations, dioramas, and stop-motion animation to evoke the beauty of nature and human connection.

My work has allowed me the privilege of working with various types of organizations to create content for them in my signature style - music videos, event promotions, and more. You can learn more about working with me here.

Drawing on my background in marketing, I also offer creative consulting services to my clients to bring their vision to life and spread their message creatively and strategically.

A bit more about me…

I live with my husband, artist Cam DeCaussin, in sunny Phoenix, where we co-own DeCaussin Studios, based in our own in-home studio, while raising our young son and two dogs.

I was born and raised in Grand Rapids, Michigan, where I spent much of my childhood playing with sticks, swimming, and running through the woods. Throughout my life, I’ve been steeped in the arts; from competitive dance to violin lessons to marching bands and musicals, my love for all things creative began before I can even remember.

Upon graduating from Grand Valley State University with a Bachelor of Fine Art in Illustration with a Minor in Business, I went on to start my company, Funamals LLC, focusing on painting custom pet portraits in watercolor. My work was featured on MSN Living, and overnight my Etsy shop became so busy I was painting daily for 12 hours a day! It was exciting to find this early commercial success, but I always knew that I wanted to expand the purpose of my work to the world beyond pet portraits.

Next, I managed social media content for Laboratory5 Inc in Tempe under the direction of the magnificent Cyndi Coon, having relocated to Phoenix, Arizona. I created animation work for projects including Arizona State University’s Emerge, developing and fun illustrated and animated content to use asfor social media campaigns and blog posts.

After a brief stint in Los Angeles working for the excellent Digital Twigs animation studio – during which I created the concept art for a Baozou animation project, establishing the identity of their film division – I spent an exciting few years with Scottsdale Public Art, managing projects like Canal Convergence.  I worked with artists from all over the world, managed a team of 56 volunteers and helped grow the event to 56,000 attendees; a highlight of my role was the opportunity to manage performing artists like Rioult, an NYC-based contemporary dance company, as well as working alongside countless inspirational artists.

Bringing us to the present day, I worked for six and half years as Communications Manager for Saint Barnabas Episcopal Church in Scottsdale before leaving my position in the spring of 2023 to focus solely on our company, DeCaussin Studios. The culture of this church is distinctively loving and accepting of all people; the exceptional Rev. Jim Clark has taught me to consistently keep my Spiritual practice and my relationships at the center of all that I do. I have been incredibly blessed to work with such a kind, supportive, and creative team; I grew enormously, both personally and professionally.

Throughout my professional journey, I have continued to grow my independent artistic practice through DeCaussin Studios. In spring 2023, I received “Best Animated Music Video” and “Video of the Year” at the Michigan Music Video Awards for “On the Road Again,” created for Djangophonique. I live in a state of constant excitement about what creative project I will discover next. I can’t wait to see what the future holds!
